Based on the prevalence *, depression can also affect athletes or competitive athletes. Different factors can fuel the disease. This includes pressure to perform or crises that are individually perceived as too stressful.

Depression – the Desease

In addition to exogenous factors, endogenous factors also belong to the criteria of depression, a form of affective disorders. The ICD-10, the medical catalog for diseases of the World Health Organization, describes the different changes in mood.

The World Health Organization (WHO) share the following numbers found in research, regarding the prevalence of depression: 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. 1 million people have taken their own lives through suicide during a depression.
